How is gross computed from net?
Net is not a linear function of gross (due to the credit and tax bands), so gross is found numerically to produce the entered net. The result is indicative and excludes other credits.
Why does it differ slightly from a payslip?
Rounding and other possible credits aren't included. For an exact figure use payroll software or consult an accountant.
